Nurturing the Flame
Dear Soul,
Moving through the summer sunshine, how are you?
I hope these weeks are offering you moments of spontaneity, and even courage to say “yes“ when the thinking mind says, “not ready yet.”
May there also be space for joy, and for the many forms of nourishment this season offers.
When we speak about nourishment, our minds think food first, and rightly so. Summer invites abundance onto our plates: ripe fruit, long meals shared outdoors, herbs from the garden and the sweetness of the season itself.
Yet the nourishment we seek is rarely only physical.
In Traditional Chinese Medicine, summer belongs to the Fire element and to the Heart, the home of the Shen — our spirit, our consciousness, the part of us that recognises meaning, beauty and direction.
Perhaps this is why some forms of hunger cannot be answered by food alone.
We may be longing for rest, for purpose, for creativity, for community. We may be longing for silence, for wonder, for a deeper sense of belonging within the great unfolding of life.
True nourishment asks for listening.
It asks us to become quiet, even in the heat, the outer noise, to notice what genuinely sustains us, and honest enough to recognise what no longer does.
The Heart does not force or strive. It listens, responds, and learns to move in relationship with something larger than itself.
Perhaps this is where self-knowledge and trust begin: not in controlling the path ahead, but in walking it attentively and participating in a co-creation with life itself.
At the height of summer, when nature appears to be doing so much, we find wisdom in remembering that much of its work happens through listening and responding — turning towards the sun, opening up when we feel called to, and resting when it is time.
An invitation for reflection:
What truly nourishes me, beyond the obvious?
What in my life leaves me feeling more alive, connected and present?
Where am I being invited to listen more closely?
What might become possible if I trusted the unfolding a little more?
Oftentimes nurturing begins not by adding more, but by making space for what truly matters.
This spirit of nourishment and spaciousness is also at the heart of Inner Harvest.
In the end of September we are gathering in Greece for a week of yoga, rest, beautiful food, nature and meaningful connection — a chance to step away from everyday demands and listen more closely to ourselves again.
There are now just a few spots remaining, and if joining us has been quietly lingering somewhere in your heart, I warmly invite you to explore the possibility.
